Intimate Flora for Women by Optibac contains the two key bacteria for a healthy vaginal microbiome, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus and Reuteri. There’s also the addition of helpful lactobacillus paracasei, a well-researched women’s probiotic with varied benefits.

However, there are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. With only three strains of bacteria, it doesn’t offer the diversity of microflora we would recommend. What’s more, the strength is far below the levels that are widely recommended, with just 2.5 billion CFU per daily dose. At a probiotic for women’s vaginal support this may be effective but it’s not formulated to target other women’s issues such as digestive symptoms like bloating that can have specific causes in women.

Whilst it’s lactose-free, it’s not additive free and contains maltodextrose and other fillers which can cause pain and cramps for some people with IBS and intolerances. The capsules are not stomach-acid resistant. When you add in the fact that there are no prebiotics to help the bacteria form live colonies in the gut, we feel this is not a strong contender in the field of women’s probiotics.

So, while Optibac’s Intimate Flora For Women contains three excellent strains, the low dose and troublesome additives mean it might not be the best choice.
